Deaf and Disabled Performers Wanted

There are some upcoming opportunities for actors with signing skills and one for disabled presenters. If you think you have what it takes to be a star then what are you waiting for?…

1. BE A TV STAR!

What is it? A well known TV soap, Hollyoaks. Some initial episodes, “ground-breaking online material” and potentially returning to become a regular character.

What are the requirements? They are looking for someone deaf (profoundly or partially) and a sign language user or ability to communicate in sign language. You must be over 16 but be able to realistically play a 16 year old.

Interested? What should you do next? Get yourself a head and shoulders portrait photograph and contact Shelley on shelley@thebigtalent.co.uk before 6pm on Friday 27 January 2012… so hurry!

2. BE A FILM STAR AND PROMOTE DEAF AWARENESS!
What is it? An NDCS film on Deaf awareness.
What are the requirements? They are seeking two deaf youngsters (aged 16-18), one female and one male, one BSL user and one cochlear implant user. They also state that “you have to sell yourself as urban, trendy and cool!”
Interested? What should you do next? Clear your schedule for the filming on 11th and 12th February in Edinburgh and email buzz@ndcs.org.uk with a photo of you and a one minute video explaining why you think deaf awareness is important. Can’t create a video, no worries, contact them anyway and they will schedule a chat with you on Skype or MSN. Make sure you contact them before the deadline: 12pm, 6 February 2012.

There are also unpaid roles for the “party” scene. Contact buzz@ndcs.org.uk for more info.

3. TOUR IN THE SUMMER
What is it? A Summer tour
What are the requirements? Acting experience and BSL or SSE skills.
Interested? What should you do next? Send your CV via http://www.annierowe-casting.com
Apologies for the lack of info, will post more as I find more.

4. BE A DISABLED PRESENTER FOR THE BBC

What is it? Training for a disabled presenter with the BBC , meet contacts in the industry and receive support to launch your career. There are no guarantees of receiving a job at the end of it though.

What are the requirements? They are seeking a person with a disability who has passion and knowledge regarding presenting.

Interested? What should you do next? Complete the application form here, answer the questions and upload a 1 minute video or audio file. Do this by 31 January 2012. If you are selected you will be invited to a screen test (either in Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast, London, Salford and Bristol). The successful group (6-10 people) will begin to receive their training in late Spring/Summer 2012.

5. PERFORM IN A FUNDRAISER

What is it? Attik Dance Community Platform Fundraiser. This creative day filled with dance, theatre, film and art will take place at Devonport Guildhall on Wednesday 25 April 2012. Proceeds go to Attik 360 (a dance programme for disabled and non-disabled adults).

What are the requirements? They are seeking dance groups, soloists, theatre companies and film makers in the South West

Interested? What should you do next? Contact Clair Beckett: clair@attik.org.uk 01752 395134 to apply.

                                                                          GOOD LUCK!

  2. I would assume you need to be UK based and a British Sign Language user. However, there’s no harm sending a CV and headshot anyway. You never know, if they don’t use you this time they will have you on file for another opportunity.
